Here is Mei Mei looking at the Playgro musical cot mobile which I bought second-hand from another mommy at a steal of $18 (retail price is $59). Heheh.
I think it is essential to get a cot mobile to stimulate the baby's senses since it can be quite boring lying in the cot most of the time. Ying Ying used to have a Fisher Price one which has an aquarium-like screen at the side. It was the first of the many toys I have got for her. I remember it was quite expensive - think I paid something like $89 for it and that was after discount. Unfortunately, when we took it out last month, we found the 'water' in the aquarium had dried up during storage! I didn't bother to test whether the music and lights were working because I couldn't bear to see an unsightly dried-up fish tank in the cot. I was so dismayed that I swore never to buy another Fisher Price product again! :(
Actually, an ex-colleague of mine bought exactly the same aquarium mobile as a present for Ying Ying's 1st month but I insisted on returning it to her because I thought I would have no use for it since I already owned one. How wrong was I! She subsequently gave it to another ex-colleague who delivered one week earlier than me. Alas! I should have kept it for Mei Mei.
So this time round, I refused to fork out so much money for a cot mobile. Afterall, it can only be used for the first 5 mths. This one is relatively cheap because it has just a simple wind-up mechanism and does not come with fanciful gadget like auto-play music, lighting and remote control. I don't mind cos I find such features gimmicky and unnecessary. Mei Mei seems to like it based on the photos shown above. :)
