Mealtime!

Just to share on what Ying Ying eats everyday...

Banana Cereal (1 baby serving)

Mix the following together:

  • 3-4 tbsp organic cereal (I use Healthy Times or Earth's Best)
  • 50-60ml breastmilk
  • 1/3 med ripe banana* - mash
  • 1 peach puree cube** - optional

*The small yellow variety of bananas (not the Delmonte type) are more nutritious; higher in Vit A.
** Wash peach well. Cut and remove seed. Retain skin for fibre. Steam peach for till soft. Blend to desired consistency. Add water if necessary. Spoon into ice-cube trays and cover (you can use aluminium foil if trays do not have covers). Freeze.

Porky Porridge (1 baby serving)

1 tbsp (organic) brown rice
1 cup water
1/4 small carrot
1 sm pc cod fish
5 stalks red spinach (leaves only)
1 tsp ikan bilis powder*
1/2 stalk celery - for flavouring
1 sm pc pork - for flavouring
1 egg yolk - optional

1) Put water, rice, pork, carrot and celery in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
2) Transfer boiled mixture to a small** crockpot.
3) Cook for about 3-4hrs or till rice grains turn mushy.
4) Remove the pork*** and celery. Add in fish and cook for another 1hr or so.
5) Add in spinach leaves, ikan bilis powder and egg yolk. Leave to cook for about 15mins or till spinach has gone soft.****
6) Optional: Blend porridge to desired consistency. Serve hot.

*To make ikan bilis powder, buy fresh white ikan bilis and soak in hot water to remove salt. Dry-fry or bake till crisp. Blend fried/baked mixture into powder. Store powder in fridge.
**Get the smallest size available as bigger crockpots tend to dry up due to the sm qty of this recipe.
*** The pork should be really tender and sweet now. You can eat it instead of discarding it. Yummy!
****If you are in a hurry, bring to boil 1 cup of water in a small saucepan and cook spinach leaves for about 30s. Do not overcook.
