Outing to the Zoo!

Ying Ying visited the zoo for the first time today!

Well, we meant to take her there when she was much younger but kept procastinating because we thought the outing would take up a lot of time. But better late than never right?

Previously, we have spent most of our weekend outings shopping at malls or stocking up at supermarkets. But I didn't want Ying Ying to grow up thinking that life is all about shopping. So now that I have started my leave, I resolved to take her to places that are closer to Mother Nature. So two weeks ago, I finally signed us as Friends of the Zoo and our membership card arrived last week. Now there is simply no excuse not to visit the zoo on a regular basis!

Today's afternoon outing took about 4 hours. We had planned to set off in the morning but had somehow overslept. It proved to be a blessing in disguise because the zoo seemed to be less crowded in the afternoon - we saw a number of cars leaving as we arrived.

Since Ying Ying did not have a hat (we decided against buying one since she kept taking it off her head when trying), I applied some Mustela sunscreen lotion on her limbs in the car on the way to the zoo. Luckily, the weather was not too hot today, though it was quite humid.

I fed darling some vanilla peach baby yoghurt and her favourite mango-avocado blend for lunch at the entrance before we set off to explore the zoo compound. We did not take the tram as there was a long queue and it was just too much hassle opening and closing the stroller. Besides, walking around was a good form of exercising for us. (Yes... we have gone a bit out of shape eversince our wedding day!)

We had an enjoyable time together and I was busy pointing out the animals to Ying Ying. It must have been an eye-opening experience for her as she has never seen REAL animals before (not counting Pepe the Jack Russell over at her grandma's house). In fact, it was hard trying to take photos with her cos she kept turning behind to look at the animals! (That probably explains why she looked so reluctant in the photos!)

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Children's World. It is nice to know that there is something else Ying Ying can do apart from animal-viewing, like exploring the big playground or playing in the shallow pool.

And oh, darling sat in a swing (designed for children below 2) for the first time! Next to her was an older baby in the swing and Ying Ying kept staring and smiling at her maid who was going weeeeeee everytime she pushed the swing. The maid was delighted that she managed to amuse Ying Ying and continued to weeeee a few more times for her. So nice of her! :)

Eventually, Ying Ying became overwhelmed with fatigue and dozed off in her stroller. She missed seeing the Australia Outback exhibit (I was disappointed that the kangeroos were kinda small) and the white tiger who kept baring his fangs and prowling around menacingly (probably hatching an escape plan). Never mind, we will be back again very soon! :)
