Pain Pain!!!

My poor Ying Ying suffered two incidences of pain today. The first incident happened in the afternoon when she was creeping around in the living room, doing her own mini self-exploration. Suddenly, she bent too much forward, lost her balance and...a sickening THUD!! She had hit the ceramic floor right on her forehead!! Right in front of me somemore!

I quickly scooped her up and carried her to the bedroom to console my wailing darling. There was a small patch of redness but no visible swelling, thank god. I rubbed on it very gently, hoping that it would ease her pain a little. It took about 5mins before she finally stopped crying.

Actually, that was not the first time she had fallen and hit her head on the ceramic flooring. The first time happened about a fortnight ago in exactly the same way. Though she had fallen off our bed at least 5x (!), I wasn't as worried because we had laminated flooring in our room. I guess it is inevitable for her to experience a few falls like this before she finally master the art of balancing and walking. Like any concerned parent, I pray hard that her brain development will not be affected in any way as a result of all her falls.

The second incident happened in the night. I was washing her bottom when she suddenly went into a convulsion. I was shocked because I had never seen her like that before. It took me a split second before I realised the tap was at the MAXIMUM temperature (which is about 90 deg celsius)!!! I had a habit of doing so because I was impatient to wait for the water to warm up. But until today, I was always careful to turn back the tap to the centre once the water started to get a little hot. Somehow, I forgot to turn back today! I really #%$E^ myself.

Thinking back, the shit remnants on the vanity table must have distracted me. Earlier on, we were caught in a shitty situation (literally). I usually help her to pass motion by carrying her over the toliet bowl. But today, I was slow in opening the toilet seat and that resulted in her shit landing on the vanity table and the toilet floor.

Anyway, I quickly carried her out of the sink, pushed the tap to the coolest temperature and put her in again under the running water (meanwhile my precious was screaming her head away). Her right leg must have been scalded because it had turned a little pinkish compared to her left. I was very mad with myself and even more furious with hubby who was on the phone when we are facing a mini crisis!! But he did end the conversation quickly upon hearing the unusual scream.

Needless to say, he was extremely angry with me for being so careless. He quickly took an ice pack from the freezer and I used it to touch momentarily on different parts of her affected leg. The hot-cold treatment certainly made darling very, very upset. She decided she had enough of the sink business and screamed even louder to get out. After drying her, I applied a generous amount of soothing calendula ointment on her left leg. Hubby then performed several antics to cheer her up.

Ying Ying eventually stopped crying after an agonising 15mins. Later, to my relief, she started crawling around as if nothing had happened (while me the mother remained guilt-ridden). Even as I am typing now, my mind can still conjure the terrible image of her helpless body in seizure. Horrible, horrible!! I will NEVER push the tap to the maximum EVER AGAIN. Cold water may not be comfortable but at least it is safer than hot water right?

*Sigh* What a day for my poor darling! :(
