An unexpected visitor flew into our house two days ago!
It was a bird taking shelter from the rain! There was a heavy rain and I was about to enter the room to close the windows when I saw something fluttering on the floor. I quickly grabbed my camera and called Ying Ying to come over. I told her to keep her voice low so that the bird would not be scared off. We stood quietly at the door and observed the bird for a while, amazed by the presence of the bird. How many times do you get a beautiful bird to fly into your house, right? Then I noticed the bird kept pecking at water droplets on the outer side of the window panes (see pic below). It was probably thirsty so I poured some water into a plastic container and left it on the floor.
We went for a nap and when we woke up an hour or so later, it was still there! Just in time for husband to come home and witness it. He said it must be somebody else's pet bird. He is probably right because this bird didn't seem to be very fearful of humans. I even saw it checking out the files in the room! Anyway, I knew it drank the water because it had come down from the window ledge and there were water markings on the floor. It stayed for almost 2 hours before it flew away.
I had thought the bird was a budgie. But I googled and found out budgie had throat markings and this one doesn't. Anyone knows the name of this bird?
