Ying Ying is sick of all the special baby food we have been preparing for her since she was 6mth old.
About a fortnight ago, she started rejecting the soft-boiled egg and banana cereal which I normally served for lunch, taking only a few spoonfuls if I was lucky. She didn't even like the sweet Frisocream that is supposedly to have won many babies over. I have no choice but to give her bread and cream crackers - her all-time favourite. Recently, she is into the fish porridge that we eat. She loves the taste of sesame oil, tau kwa, carrot, potato and sometimes fish.
The day before, we visited the newly-opened IKEA Tampines and I fed her the usual nutritious and wholesome brown rice porridge at the cafe there. She was eating fine until her papa served up the fish n chips on the table. Our friend eyed longingly at the chips and started screaming for them. I was so embarrassed that I let her hold one piece of french fries. Everytime she opened her mouth to eat the fries, I quickly pushed in a spoonful of porridge before she could eat it. Unfortunately, our friend was very fast and succeeded in taking a few bites. In fact, she ate up one piece and screamed for another one. I gave in - anything to keep her quiet!!! A few pieces of fries wouldn't kill anyway. Sigh.
Then yesterday, she refused to eat her nutritious and wholesome brown rice porridge for dinner. She was totally uncooperative and simply spat out whatever I fed her. She stopped screaming only when I offered her some of my rice (softened with herbal chicken soup) on my "adult" metal spoon. Whenever I tried to trick her into eating her special porridge, she would start screaming and spatting again. Sigh.
On the positive note, I think I will not have to prepare 'special' meals for her for long now that she prefers to copy us by eating the food we eat. Meanwhile, I am not exactly proud of the choices of food we take daily. We must eat healthily for Ying Ying's sake!
