Fever Blues

Pum Pum got her first high fever of 2011 yesterday! She felt a little warm to touch when I woke her yesterday mornig and I knew instantly she had fever the minute I saw her coming back in the school bus. Why? Because she wasn't perspiring as usual. Normally, her hair would be a little damp from the heat of the afternoon but yesterday it was dry. I took her temperature and it was 39.1 degree!! I quickly washed her down (luckily she didn't protest) and gave her panadol and fever strip. Then I read to her and put her to sleep. She slept for only about an hour before being woken up by the noise created by carpenter who came over to alter the cabinet for the oven (see my previous post).

The fever lowered to about 37.5 to 38 degree but didn't go away so I administered a second dose in the late afternoon. By the evening, she still felt feverish so I decided to bring her to see a GP when husband came back. Just to make sure she was not having an ear infection which she used to have a few times when she was younger.

Usually, we would go to the family clinic at Rivervale Mall in Sengkang which is about 5mins drive or 15-20mins walk away. But this time, I decided to switch to a nearer clinic which is down the road, 2 bus-stop away. I have heard positive feedback from a friend and the SAHM neighbour that the main doctor, Dr Loh, is very good - thorough and good with children. I was quite impressed because I seldom hear good stuff about doctors - mostly just OK comments.

We were pleased to see that the clinic was not as crowded compared to the Rivervale Mall one and we didn't feel a sense of rush during the consultation. The usual waitlist time at the previous clinic could go up to 1-1.5hours but yesterday there were only 2 patients ahead of us. Though I was a little disappointed to find out Dr Loh wasn't on duty, his heavily pregnant wife, Dr Lee, turned out to be quite good too - friendly and empathetic. However, she didn't come across as experienced and confident probably cos she is a little young (think she is in her early or mid-30s). The doctor said the fever (from viral flu) would last for about 2-3 days and told me to anticipate cough and running nose *dreads*. She commented Pum Pum was clingy to me now that she is sick. I thought about it and realised she was right! She kept hanging around me or following me around the house just to see what I was doing!

I am keeping Pum Pum from school today. Hope she would recover soon and Ying Ying would be resilient against her virus - she is having some nose congestion these few days but no fever. Not looking forward to having 2 sick kiddos at home!! @_@

Side-note: Pum Pum weighed 15.9kg (with crocs) at the clinic but I remember she was 14.9 kg (without crocs) when I weighed her at home 2 weeks ago. Either the one of the scales is wrong or she gained 1kg in a fortnight or her crocs weigh 1kg??? Must check again...
