Little Genius

Saw Ying Ying arranging her name on the fridge using alphabetical magnets yesterday. I have taught her to spell her name about 9-10mths back (when meimei was in her 1st mth) but since then I have been too busy to check if she still remembers. Well, clearly she has not forgotten!

Undeniably, Ying Ying has a superb memory. (I told husband she takes after me in this aspect since he always forgets what I tell him to buy at the supermarket.) In fact, her nickname in school is "Little Genius". Her teachers last year gave her the nickname for her ability to read so well ahead of her peers. They found it incredible that Ying Ying was able to pronounce almost any word shown to her, not just those found in children's books. All the teachers and even the principal soon knew about her talent and they like to tease her sometimes.

Frankly, I am not too concerned about her academic development right now. Husband says Ying Ying is too smart for her own good because she keeps driving us up the wall. She is excellent as an independent learner but she also needs to know how to be a good contributing team-player. My wish is that she will have as much EQ and AQ as her IQ because IQ alone cannot help one to succeed in life. Which child would you rather have: smart but naughty or slow but obedient? I think the second one is easier to teach!
