Swan Lake

We took the girls out for an outing at the Botanic Gardens last Saturday afternoon since we couldn't make it in time for her kindermusik lesson (see next post).

I brought along a huge bag of leftover bread which I have been accumulating for 2-3mths in the freezer. You see, everytime we couldn't finish a loaf of bread before its expiry date, I would just chuck them into the freezer instead of throwing away. I can't bear to throw away, lah - those were the more expensive multi-grain brown bread ok...... Do you know bread can be kept for as long as a year in the freezer? Just heat it up again and it would be back to the original state which you have stored them in. Having said that, I still can't get over the idea of eating bread stored like that. :p So I ALWAYS save leftover bread for a weekend feeding session for the fish, swans, turtles and even birds at the Botanic Gardens.

Unfortunately, it had been raining for many of weekends in the months of August and September. So we had to cancel the feeding sessions more than a couple of times because the weather wasn't looking good. I even had to discard one plastic bag of bread because there just isn't enough space in the freezer to store them. Now that meimei is going to start solids, I will need to have more freezer space to store her food cubes. Ahhh..... I am relieved to have gotten rid of the bread finally.

Anyway, the mid-afternoon weather at the park was a bit too hot and humid for my liking but we managed to find a shady spot to feed the fish. And boy, it took us close to an hour to finish the whole NTUC bag of bread! Ying Ying was getting restless towards the end of the feeding session and she kept straying elsewhere. I laid meimei down on our straw mat (which we always keep in the car for occasions like that) cos she got hot and bored looking out from her stroller. She was a good baby, hardly fussed much throughout. Just contented lying there, sucking on her fingers and observing the surroundings. Love you so much, meimei. Muaks! :)

Saw a Japanese family trying to feed one of the swans their children's biscuit sticks snack. I frowned in disapproval but guess what, the swan actually preferred biscuit sticks than the wholesome bread I had for them! But when the sticks finally ran out, it had no choice but to eat the bread I offered. haha..... I ever saw a maid feeding the swans leafy vegs like kangkong and cabbage and the swans loved it. So if you have any leftover vegs and bread, don't waste them!
