Goodbye, Mittens!

Long and delicate nails become ...

... short and neat nails!

I finally got down to trimming Mei Mei's fingernails yesterday. Actually, I should have done that a long ago. I remember when Ying Ying was one month old, a nurse at the polyclinic saw her wearing mittens and advised us to take them off so she could feel different textures and temperatures. Now that Mei Mei is coming to 2mths old, this is long overdue! Her hands have become so fair because she has been wearing mittens and bootees every single day since birth.

It was pretty easy for me to clip Mei Mei's nails. But I must say it was quite unnerving for me to clip Ying Ying's nails last time when she was a young baby. I still can vividly recall the time I accidentally clipped part of her flesh during Christmas day when she was 3.5mth. Felt so heartache when I saw blood dripping off her little thumb. We later went to a Christmas concert at a friend's church and a kind church-goer who saw her bandaged thumb told us she used to use scissors instead of nail clippers to cut her children's nails because it is safer. It was a good advice for I have been using safety scissors (from Pigeon) eversince then and it works very well. An ex-colleague who also heard my story, proclaimed that the "trick" to cutting baby's nails is to gently pull back the flesh before cutting. Quite true!

Anyway, that incident stuck in my mind and since then, I am extremely careful whenever I cut Ying Ying's nails. Mei Mei will certainly benefit from my 'expertise' now! :D
