On quite a few occasions, I felt very disturbed when I overheard my parents-in-law telling white lies to Ying Ying so that she would cooperate with them.
For example,
1) To get her to stay at home with them, they told her that husband and I were going to work though we were going shopping.
2) To get her to take breakfast, they told her I was already out working when I was actually in the toilet.
3) To get her to take lunch, they told her there was nobody in the bedroom though I was inside.
4) They tried to con her into drinking cow's milk by telling her it was (her favourite) soya milk. (Of course Ying Ying could tell the difference after a sip and she started kicking up a fuss till soya milk was finally served.)
5) And this morning, to get her moving out of the house, they told her they would be going to the market though they were taking her to school!! *fuming mad*
Terrible, isn't it!!!
I complained to husband but he thinks I am over-reacting. He said the lies were harmless and that I didn't understand that they had no choice but to do it this way. Oh yeah? I disagree cos those lies are really unnecessary. Imagine you are the child being lied to so many times, to what extent would you trust your caregiver again? Honesty is the best policy no matter what. :[
