This is meimei with her Kindermusik teacher, Ms Yim Ching. We have finally completed all her remaining Milk and Cookies classes on Monday. (We were supposed to have finished the term earlier with Ms Hazi on Tuesdays but I switched over to Ms Yim Ching's class on Mondays in order to accomodate meimei's Tuesdays-Fridays PlayClub sessions at Julia Gabriel.) Though it wasn't the last lesson for everybody, Ms Yim Ching was so sweet in remembering to prepare a certificate for meimei. :)
This means meimei has completed 2 semesters of Kindermusik in total:
- Village - Theme: Cock-a-doodle-MOO! (8 lessons)
- Our Time - Theme: Milk and Cookies (15 lessons)
23 lessons in total! Phew!!! I am perspiring at the thought of it. Think it is time for a break!!! I have decided not to sign her up for next term as the 45-minute lesson does not justify the amount of time taken to travel from Punggol to Tanglin Mall. Moreover, the course fees have been increased from $25 to $30 per lesson wef this year so I am even less motivated to continue.
I think meimei enjoyed Kindermusik mainly because she was given ample oppportunities to collect and return the various musical instruments given by the teacher and to be involved in some turn-takings. As for music exposure and storytime, I don't really sense obvious benefits since I can replicate these activities at home by playing songs on CDs and reading to her. Plus, some of their activities and instruments used are really simple and easy to carry out such as playing peek-a-boo with scarves, tapping together 2 egg-shakers or plastic spoons (drawn like faces) to make music etc.
Besides, meimei is already attending PlayClub 4x a week so I think it should suffice since PlayClub also has music incorporated in every lesson (albeit carried out differently). Maybe it is even better since PlayClub music is being played 'live' on the keyboard whereas Kindermusik teachers depend on CDs to carry out their lessons.
So, farewell to Kindermusik! Thanks for the memories! ^_^
