S-IN-GAPORE

Dear Ying Ying,

National Day is our nation's birthday. This day is also extra special to you and mei-mei because you turned 35mths and mei-mei, 5mths. Not only that, you are only 1mth away from turning 3! How exciting!! ^_^

Anyway, your school organised a National Day celebration yesterday. I took mei-mei to your school on my own - Papa couldn't join us because he couldn't take time off his work. I was so glad I attended because I got to witness your very first class performance! (I would never be able to make it too if I were working. So in times like this, I feel so thankful to be your main caregiver.) I had absolutely no idea you were going to perform beforehand because Ms Ruth didn't mention anything at all in your communication book. Apparently, every class was supposed to put up an item and your teachers had cleverly chosen a simple cheer for your class to perform. Though not an original, it was so apt for your class level. The sweet and simple cheer went like this:
(spell) S-IN-GAPORE
(spell) S-IN-GAPORE
Woooooahhhh
SINGAPORE!!!
(Repeat 3x)

So that was how you learned to spell Singapore. :)

I had dressed you up in white T-shirt and red pants in the morning but laoshi said you spilled some Milo on your tee during breakfast so that was how you ended up wearing pink and red... ...

Aha! Caught you yawning in school! See, mama told you to sleep early, right?

Mama!!! I saw my mama!!! Your face brightened up when you caught sight of me with the camera. I was amazed how you were able to pick me out from the crowd. You really have sharp eyes, darling!

Getting ready to perform the S-IN-GAPORE cheer. I couldn't move closer to the front because I had to stay at the back with mei-mei who was in the stroller. Though you couldn't see me from where you stood, you were still laughing at the thoughts of mama in the crowd. :)

Mei-mei roused awake from her nap. She was looking curiously towards the direction of the noisy stage.

The event was a happy one until... you pushed your feet so hard against mama's chair that you fell backwards like an overturned tortoise and hit the back of your head against the carpark ground where we were sitting. I was holding on to our plate of party food and couldn't react fast enough to catch you, apart from letting a shriek of warning. :( You were so shocked that you didn't make any noise for like 2-3 seconds. Of course, you recovered and started cry inconsolably and laoshi rushed over to pick you up. I couldn't believe I was still holding onto the @%T(!*% plate of food instead of coming to your rescue. (Later, papa scolded me and pointed out I should have tossed the ^&*@ food into the air/ground without a second thought to save you.) Because my reaction was retarded, I felt guilty for the rest of the day. :( *sigh*

I captured this picture of the lovely trees shadowing your school so that you will have wonderful memories of your preschool surroundings.
