I have not blogged for quite some time cos I have been kept busy taking Ying Ying to her twice-weekly, parent-accompanied pre-nursery class about a month ago.
Though each session is only two hours long, the travelling part can be quite tiring. The school is not very accessible from our hse so we have to rely on taking cabs there, which is burning a big hole in my pocket. But still, it is cheaper than owning a car I suppose. Anyway, seeing how Ying Ying has benefitted from her classes makes everything all worthwhile!
When Ying Ying first started out, she was too shy to say anything in front of the class. Then finally, on her 10th lesson (two days ago), she finally gathered her courage and blurted out her name when asked. Everyone clapped loudly cos that was the first time they ever heard her uttered her name aloud. :)
During the initial couple of weeks, Ying Ying refused to eat the food given during snacktime (usually a mixture of three different types of food e.g. cereal, biscuits, cheese or watermelon cubes, served with water or juice). But recently, to my surprise, she started showing an interest in eating and her favourite being the cheese cubes. I am so glad cos Ying Ying has always been a fussy eater and it is so hard to coerce her to eat at mealtimes. Think sitting and eating with kids her age probably encouraged her appetite in some ways. So never underestimate the power of peer influence!
Generally, I observed Ying Ying has grown to be more confident in class now that she is more familiar with the class routines. Though the routines and songs are mostly the same, the teachers vary their hands-on activities and stories so that sessions do not get boring.
Overall, I am happy with her classes and her teachers. Believe it or not, it took me four trials to arrive at this decision to enrol her in this school and I have no regrets so far (apart from the distance). In fact, I have already signed her up for the thrice-weekly classes for next term. I am sure the exposure will do her some good!
Just to share here on a few projects which I did together with her in class. But mostly of the time, they were done by me - haha! These craftwork are very simple to do - just paint and paste. Since they are too young to handle scissors, all the pictures and materials were cut ready for them.
