Cheerios n Poo

Ying Ying loves her Cheerios so much that she likes to carry the bag and walk around the house! I would shake the bag in front of her and she would go all excited making noises and waving her hands wildly. Upon prompting, she would open her mouth and even say "ahhh..." softly in her babyish manner. So cute. :)

Today I passed one Cheerio to her instead of putting it in her mouth directly. Last time, she didn't know what to do with it and would just play with it. But this time round, to our surprise, she tried to put it into her mouth without me prompting her to! Although she didn't succeed (because the Cheerios was in her palm), I am still happy because this is a sign that she is trying to learn how to self-feed (at last!!).

If you haven't noticed, the 3rd pic shows her in her... errr.. panty (see previous entry on panties). Hmmm...Looks a bit X-rated huh? Never crossed my mind to let her wear something else in addition to panties because since birth, she always wears nappies on their own because nappies will leak through pants. I would do that probably in a month or two when she is more ready. Right now, there have been some "accidents" here and there. She poo-pooed in her panties twice - luckily the panty was quite fitting so the shit didn't get out. And luckily it was dry poo otherwise it would be quite messy. She also peed in it once and nearly slipped on it.

When you become a mother, you start talking about poo and pee in a very objective and factual manner. Single people like her gu-gu would never understand. I find it rather annoying that she kept saying things "shame shame" or "chao chao" (hokkien for smelly) to tease Ying Ying whenever I change her diaper. C'mon, everybody poo and pee what, what's there to be shameful about? Afterall, what goes in must come out, isn't it? In fact, I am pleased everytime Ying Ying does her pee and poo because this is hard evidence that something has gone through her system (after all my attempts at feeding her!). When she first started out on solids at 6mths, I even liked to scrutinise her poo to check what she has eaten. Most of the time, there were just remnants of her brown rice porridge. Occasionally, I could even find kiwi seeds! Yes, you can tell a lot from a baby's diet from his/her poo in terms of colour, consistency, shape and smell! Before giving birth, I never thought I'll find poo examination so interesting. So if you think the following pics are totally repulsive, you are probably not a mum! :D
