Husband asked me to get an abacus set for Ying Ying as he realised she doesn't know how to count properly. Their conversation went something like this:
Ying Ying: Papa, I know what is 5 + 5!
Husband: What?
Ying Ying: 10! (showed 10 fingers proudly)
Husband: Ok, then how about 5 + 6?
Ying Ying: 6! (happily)
Husband: !!!!!
So the following day, on the way back home from meimei's class, I stopped by Toy R'us and was happy to find a cute colourful wooden one from Melissa & Doug. It was on sale somemore - heehee. Of course, Ying Ying was pleased with her new toy which kept her preoccupied for quite some time (heheh).
Then husband came back from work and immediately complained it was not the 'real' thing. Turned out he had wanted me to get the flat traditional kind. *roll eyes* Please lah.... where got people use that nowadays.... I remember being taught in school how to use the 'suan pan' when I was around P2. Got worksheets on it somemore. I didn't like it then cos I couldn't really follow when the counting got more difficult. But seriously, who uses that to learn counting now??? Goes to show how old-fashioned minded husband is!!!
Never mind, from now on, I shall relegate the teaching of Math to Mr Smart - since he took Math C and Higher Math at A levels while I barely passed AO Math. Plus Chinese too - since he took Higher Chinese and Chinese Literature at O levels. Maybe even Science lah - since he is an engineering grad. For me, I will just handle the English part. Easy Peasy. So next time if the girls ever fare badly in school (touch wood), can put the blame on him!!!!!
