Thoughts about PCF

Read in the papers yesterday that PCF kindy cost only abt $90/mth. I am beginning to wonder if we are really stupid to pay 10x the price for Ying Ying's preschool education. What's wrong with PCF? Afterall, I graduated from a PAP kindergarten too. We could have made use of the money saved and enrolled her in other enrichment courses.

But I must say I didn't have fond memories of my kindy classes. In my time, the enrolment was very big and the teachers looked fierce. I still remember one occasion when I was being called to the front of the class and being caned on the palm for not doing something right. My mother happened to pass by with my uncle at that very moment. They peeked through the shutters like many other parents do and witnessed the whole scene, much to my embarrassment.

That's why I am not too keen to send Ying Ying to a mainstream kindy like PCF, even though one may argue times have changed.

I want a school which can recognise Ying Ying as an individual with unique gifts and talents. A school which can bring out the best in her, instead of concentrating on getting her to conform all the time. Most of all, I want Ying Ying to regard her preschool education as part of her many fun and happy childhood memories.

Can PCF do this?

Well, husband reasons "yi(4) fen(1) qian(2), yi(4) fen(1) woh(4)" i.e. you pay monkeys, you get peanuts. We'll just cross our fingers and hope our hard-earned money would be well-spent.
