Candles

Ying Ying turned 22-month-old last Monday. For the fun of it, I bought a simple walnut cake from Bengawan Solo to celebrate after dinner over at my in-law's place. The salesgirl wasn't very pleased when I requested for candles for such a relatively cheap cake. She looked as if I have asked her to take a paycut or something. In fact, I had to make another request for the happy birthday stick after she gave me the candles. Eh...I thought most people will give them out together right?? Well, cake is a cake what. Such bad service. :(

Anyway, Ying Ying was really thrilled. She insisted on holding the plastic knife and kept saying "cut cake! cut cake!". We encouraged her to blow out the candles and I was very pleased that she was able to do it. (But when I mentioned her mini achievement to husband later, he said actually he helped to blow a bit. -_- I went like - what! she could have done it herself!!) Then I helped her cut the cake and got her to give out to everybody in the house and she eagerly did so.

Can't wait to cut the cake...

Papa helping to light the candles...

Two nights later, I decided we should celebrate again since she didn't really blow out the candles all by herself. Besides, I wanted to see if she could do it. Heehee... So I stuck the two burnt candles (which I saved) on the last slice of cake and switched off all the lights. Ying Ying was very excited cos the whole room was pitch dark apart from the lovely glow of the candles. We sang the bd song and we encouraged her to blow out her candles. Huff puff! Huff puff! She blew out one candle after about 3-4 tries and then the other after 2-3 tries without any help. We are sooooo proud of her.

I am sure she will have no problem blowing out her candles all by herself for her upcoming 2nd birthday. :)
