Last week, one neighbour commented that the white part of Ying Ying's eyes has a bit of bluish tint. She said that Ying Ying must have drank too much cold stuff - which is true! I have been serving her fresh milk straight from the fridge since about a couple of months ago to supplement her diet as she is not eating well (and still is). It never occur to me to warm up her milk cos CW and I always drink fresh milk cold. Somehow it tastes fresher that way. Though the label states "...can be served cold or warm..." but really who drinks fresh milk warm right???
Anyway, I decided to let Ying Ying try warm fresh milk to see if she likes it. I am a lazy mum - I use the microwave but I always stir after that to to ensure even heat distribution. Ying Ying was surprised by the change and kept exclaiming, "hot hot..." (she meant warm).
I think fresh milk when warm tastes creamier and more fragrant as compared to cold - the coldness probably numb our tastebuds a little. So far, I am very pleased that Ying Ying doesn't have any problem drinking warm fresh milk. In fact, I observed she takes a shorter time to finish up her milk probably cos it is easier to go down. She seems to drink more too. Previously, I only serve her milk around noon. Now she drinks at night too before she sleeps and sometimes in the afternoon too. And this is on top of all the breastmilk she drinks in between.
I prefer Meiji fresh milk cos it has the highest fat content per 100ml (4.1g) compared to other brands. Unfortunately, Meiji milk is from Thailand (not Japan!) instead of the greener pastures of Australia or New Zealand (would it be tastier??). But anything to fatten up Ying Ying is good enough at the moment. Believe it or not, Ying Ying has yet to hit 10kg even though she is 19mths now. She weighs only about 9.5kg, which is at about 25th percentile for female tots her age (50th is the average). Hopefully, all the fresh milk she drinks will make her put on some weight! Heheh...
